Adana

Raag Adana is a prominent late-night raga belonging to the Asavari Thhat and is a member of the Kanada family. Often compared with the majestic Raag Darbari Kanada, Adana distinguishes itself through its brisk, lively, and extroverted nature (Chanchal Prakruti). While Darbari is grave and played in the lower register, Adana thrives in the middle and upper octaves (Madhya and Taar Saptak). Its melodic structure typically omits Gandhar in the ascent, making its jati Shadav-Sampurna. The raga is characterized by its straight, forceful movements and frequent use of the high Shadaj. It is primarily known for evoking 'Veer Rasa' (Heroic mood), making it a favorite for high-energy compositions like Drut Khayals and Taranas. Its technical precision and energetic flow require significant mastery over breath and vocal agility.
