Raag Ahir Bhairav is a majestic and deeply meditative morning Raag in Hindustani Classical Music. It is a beautiful 'mishra' (mixed) Raag, blending the characteristics of Raag Bhairav and Raag Kafi. It employs the Komal Rishabh (flat second) from the Bhairav scale and the Komal Nishad (flat seventh) from the Kafi scale. This combination creates a unique emotional landscape that is both solemn and soul-stirring. As a 'Sampurna' Jati Raag, it uses all seven notes in its progression. The Madhyam (Ma) acts as the Vadi swar, grounding the Raag in a sense of balance and calm. Typically performed during the first prahar of the morning, Ahir Bhairav is renowned for evoking a sense of peaceful devotion (Bhakti) and spiritual awakening, often used in both classical khayal and light-classical genres like bhajans.
