Raag Bhupali, also known as Bhoop, is a foundational and majestic pentatonic Raag in Hindustani Classical Music. Belonging to the Kalyan Thhat, it utilizes five Shuddha (natural) notes: Sa, Re, Ga, Pa, and Dha, while completely omitting Madhyam (Ma) and Nishad (Ni). Its Jati is Audav-Audav, meaning it consists of five notes in both ascending and descending scales. The Vadi swar is Gandhar (Ga) and the Samvadi is Dhaivat (Dha), which gives the Raag a deeply stable and meditative character. Performed during the first prahar of the night, Bhupali is celebrated for its serene and devotional aura. It is often one of the first Raags introduced to students due to its clear structure. While it shares the same notes as Raag Deshkar, Bhupali is distinguished by its emphasis on the lower and middle octaves and its calm, steady movement.
