Raag Bihag is a profound and melodic evening Raag belonging to the Bilawal Thhat. It is characterized by its romantic and serene nature, often evoking a sense of deep longing and devotion. Although it belongs to the Bilawal scale, it is unique for its use of both Shuddha Madhyam and Teevra Madhyam, where the Teevra Madhyam is typically used as a 'Vivadi' or in a 'Vakra' (crooked) movement between two Panchams. In the ascent (Aaroh), the notes Rishabh (Re) and Dhaivat (Dha) are omitted, giving it an Audav-Sampurna structure. The Vadi swar is Gandhar (Ga) and the Samavadi is Nishad (Ni). The Raag is most effectively performed in the second prahar of the night, creating a peaceful and emotionally rich atmosphere that highlights the beauty of the Shringar Rasa.
