Raag Hamir is a majestic and powerful raga belonging to the Kalyan Thhat. Known for its grand and vigorous character, it is primarily associated with the 'Veer' (Heroic) and 'Shringar' (Romantic) Rasas. The raga utilizes all seven notes, making it a Sampurna-Sampurna jati raga, though its melodic progression is 'Vakra' (crooked). A defining feature of Hamir is the skillful use of both Shuddha and Teevra Madhyam, often creating complex patterns that distinguish it from similar ragas like Kedar or Kamod. Its Vadi swar is Dhaivat (Dha) and Samavadi is Gandhar (Ga). Traditionally performed during the first quarter of the night, Raag Hamir evokes a sense of brilliance, confidence, and structural beauty, making it a favorite for both Dhrupad and Khayal compositions in Hindustani classical music.
