Raag Hansdhwani is a melodious and vibrant Raag that holds a significant place in both Hindustani and Carnatic classical music. Originally a Carnatic Raag, it was adopted into the Hindustani system and is classified under the Kalyan Thhat. It is an Audav-Audav Jati Raag, utilizing five notes in both its ascent and descent, while strictly omitting Madhyam (Ma) and Dhaivat (Dha). The Raag is composed entirely of Shuddha (pure) notes: Sa, Re, Ga, Pa, and Ni. Known for its bright, uplifting, and auspicious character, Hansdhwani is often chosen for opening performances or 'Ganesh Vandana' to invoke a sense of divinity and joy. Its Vadi Swar is Shadaj (Sa) and the Samavadi is Pancham (Pa). Typically performed during the first prahar of the night, it creates an atmosphere of spiritual awakening and cheerfulness.
