Raag Jog is a profoundly melodious and popular Raag in Hindustani Classical Music, typically associated with the Kafi Thhat. It is characterized by the complete omission of Rishabh (Re) and Dhaivat (Dha), resulting in an Audav-Audav Jati. A defining feature of Jog is the skillful use of both Shuddha Gandhar and Komal Gandhar. The Shuddha Gandhar is employed in the ascent (Aaroh), while the Komal Gandhar is featured prominently in the descent (Avroh), often creating a hauntingly soulful tension through the phrase 'Ma Ga (K) Ma Ga (S) Sa'. Its Vadi swar is Madhyam (Ma) and the Samavadi is Shadaj (Sa). Traditionally performed during the second prahar of the night, the Raag possesses a 'Gambhir' (serious) yet enchanting nature, making it ideal for conveying deep longing, devotion, and romantic yearning.
