Raag Madhmad Sarang is a highly melodic and evocative raga belonging to the Kafi Thhat. As an Audav-Audav raga, it omits the Gandhar (Ga) and Dhaivat (Dha) notes entirely in both its ascent and descent. The raga is distinguished by its use of Shuddha Madhyam and Komal Nishad, which imparts a refreshing and bright character, often compared to the scent of rain-soaked earth. It is traditionally performed during the second prahar of the day (midday). While it shares a close structural resemblance to Raag Brindavani Sarang, Madhmad Sarang is often treated with a more romantic and playful temperament. The Vadi swar is Rishabh (Re) and the Samavadi is Pancham (Pa), providing a balanced and resonant structure that is well-suited for portraying Shringar and Bhakti rasas, making it a favorite for semi-classical compositions.
