Raag Marubihag is an enchanting and sophisticated evening raga belonging to the Kalyan Thhat. It is essentially a refined variation of Raag Bihag, distinguished primarily by the beautiful and strategic use of both Shuddha and Teevra Madhyam. The raga evokes a romantic yet serious atmosphere, often categorized under the Shringar Rasa. In its melodic structure, Rishabh (Re) and Pancham (Pa) are typically omitted in the ascent (Aaroh), though they are used gracefully in the descent (Avroh), characterizing its Jati as Audav-Sampurna. The Vadi swar is Gandhar (Ga) and the Samvadi is Nishad (Ni). The subtle movement between the two Madhyams is a signature feature, providing a complex emotional depth and a specific 'pakar' that separates it from its parent raga. It is traditionally performed during the second prahar of the night, creating a serene, captivating, and deeply emotive musical experience.
