Raag Multani is a deeply emotional and significant Raag in Hindustani Classical Music, belonging to the Todi Thhat. Traditionally performed during the late afternoon (the fourth prahar of the day), it is known for its 'Gambhir' (serious) and 'Karuna' (compassionate) nature. Although it uses the same notes as Raag Todi—Komal Rishabh, Komal Gandhar, Teevra Madhyam, and Komal Dhaivat—its treatment is entirely different. In the ascending scale (Aaroh), Rishabh and Dhaivat are omitted, making it an Audav-Sampurna Raag. The melody centers heavily around the Pancham (Vadi) and Shadja (Samvadi). Multani is characterized by its heavy use of 'Meend' (glides) and a sense of longing or intense spiritual devotion, distinguishing it as a masterpiece of the afternoon transition.
