Raag Todi, also known as Miyan ki Todi, is one of the most significant and profound ragas in Hindustani Classical Music. Serving as the fundamental scale for the Todi Thhat, it is a morning raga performed during the second prahar of the day. This raga is characterized by its use of Komal Rishabh, Komal Gandhar, Teevra Madhyam, and Komal Dhaibat, creating a distinct atmosphere of deep meditation, pathos, and devotion. Its structure is complex, requiring precise application of meend (glides) and andolan (oscillations) on the Gandhar and Dhaibat. Traditionally attributed to the legendary Miyan Tansen, Raag Todi is regarded as a 'Gambhir' (serious) raga that demands immense technical skill and emotional maturity from the performer. It evokes a sense of spiritual yearning and solitary contemplation, making it a masterpiece of the morning raga cycle.
